Delete A Serial Blogger And Focus On Your Friends

Dear People - both regular readers and those who happen to be popping through on an unexpected visit - I have come to a realisation this afternoon.   Let me set the scene for you:

For some little while now I have been almost permanently absent from Xanga.  The principle reason for this was that I felt it unfair on my friends that I should write something and expect them to comment when I wasn't getting around to visiting their blogs and saying nice things about them.  When I first joined, I only had a few friends and I thus made a big effort to visit sites and comment regularly with the intention of developing a growing network of people on this basis.

However, some of the people I added turned out to be serial bloggers - writing about 25 articles a day but never actually bothering to take the time to reply to any of my blogs.  This had an impact in that:

    1) It made it look like there were millions of articles from friends that needed visiting - too many to do, and thus put me off doing anything very much.  I just don't have time to read 20 articles from one person a day, especially when half of them were total rubbish.

    2) The important articles from friends got lost in the pile and I thus couldn't really tell who had written and who hadn't and was too daunted to bother using the quicker methods of finding out.

This lead to this afternoon's fabulous decision:

    - Delete the serial bloggers, and questions and leave the friends whose articles count.  Therefore, if you were a listed friend and are still listed as having me subscribed and a friend, that means I value your friendship via Xanga and am fully intending to increase my contact on your blogs in the near future.

Thanks for reading.  This was really boring as an article, but it addresses some issues here on Xanga that I felt needed expressing.

    I guess I'm okay........no?.....yes?.... LOL!!!  Don't worry - I struggle to get around....

You need to do what works for you, and I think you made a good decision.  This summer I tried to increase my number of friends and subscriptions, but I know in the next couple months, I won't have time to visit them all (and most of them never visit me, anyway).  So I might have to cut back, too.  But I really value your friendship and especially how thoughtful you are in explaining yourself!

  • FREAK_MA

I understand what you are saying.  I'm sorry that you had to do this.  I have some I never visit by choice.  Some i visit once in awhile.

I don't know where I stand here but glad to visit you anyway.  My pleasure.  You are a neat guy and I think you probably do many good things ahead of you.

    Take care.

I think I must do that as well.

  • moritheil

It's all about what you really think is important.  I mean, if you want relationships, that's your priority and you should act accordingly.  If you just want to be amused then obviously your priorities will be a little different.

  • bluedreamer85

good decision...subs to blogs and friends are really two different sets of things really.

  • GreekPhysique

    @moritheil - well-said

Krasno, I have found a way around that. I deleted anyone who wasn't a strong friend on my subs, but kept everyone as friends. Thus, I go to "subs" first, so I make sure to keep up with my good friends. If I have extra time, I go to the Universal Inbox second and see if any friends had funny things to say. It may help you. good luck!

That's a good idea. That's why I only sub to people I ALWAYS want to read. That way, if I'm feeling flustered, I just filter out all but my subs and then start reading.

That way I can still keep my friends, and when I have a bit more time, I can still visit them as well.

@GreekPhysique - Ah, I am just repeating what you said I guess. Haha sorry.. next time I'll read before I comment.

  • GreekPhysique

@beachblondie711 - Oh, great minds think alike.

xanga also needs to fix the way updates are displayed. eg make them smaller, and allow filtering options. the way it is now ten random pulses fill up the entire page

    Hello Stephen,
You made your site simple yet elegant. I see that you have a wide variety of interests and observations here!
I’m sending an important message to people from Jehovah God that is in the Bible: 29 Then shall they know that I am Jehovah, when I have made the land a desolation and an astonishment, because of all their abominations which they have committed. (Ezekiel 33:29) (ASV)

  • Krasno1

@Theendofthisworld - Thanks for the message and for stopping by.  Have to be honest, whilst God is undoubtedly a just God who will judge all in the end, I think it much better to focus on missions, as the Bible portrays a missionary God who loves people and does everything possible to enter into relationship with them through Jesus Christ.  I gave up on eschatology a long time ago.

@EpitomeOfInsanity - Hey thanks for stopping by.  Good point made.  I agree.

@beachblondie711 - Really appreciate you stopping by and leaving your comments.  I seem to have had more people commenting on this blog whilst I have been absent from Xanga than I have ever had.  I think you are right too, along with GreekPhysique.  Maybe I need to seriously edit my subscriptions and see how I do then.

@GreekPhysique - Thanks ever so much for stopping by and taking the time to leave suggestions as to how I can filter out the serial bloggers who clog things up, never stop by to leave comments and are, quite frankly, totally boring!  I may heed your advice, as the consequence of my absence from Xanga is that I lose 3 or 4 friendships (and 2 in particular) that I value highly.

@bluedreamer85 - As with the others, I really appreciate you stopping by and leaving your thoughts.  The amount of new folk on my blog for this article suggests that I have touched on an issue that has troubled others as well.  Sometimes it is good to raise this stuff so that ideas for getting around the issues can be pooled together in one place.  Have a great day.

@angelwingfive - Thanks for stopping by. As I said above, these issues sometimes need raising in order to get some ideas pooled together.  If I stick around on here (or rather come back), I will be very careful with subscriptions.  This just might work for me.  However, it would also be good to meet new friends as well.

@moritheil - Thanks for stopping by and commenting.  I suspect it is your comment that has fueled the subsequent debate and you are right.  I am interested in having close and meaningful friendships, not just a bunch of idiots blogging every 33 seconds about all and sundry.  Will take the advice and it is muchly appreciated.

@FREAK_MA - Hello, it's been a long time.  Don't be daft - you're one of the good ones!!!

@decembriel - You know you are one of the good ones - I don't need to tell you.  Have missed our communication greatly and you are one of the main reasons I have bothered to pop on this evening and make an effort.

@Neeka1 - As with Marty, don't be daft - you're also one of the good ones!  Hello again, by the way.

  • Neeka1

@Krasno1 - Whoah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Hello stranger....LOL....I had to come over and see what it was all about, it was such a long time!!!!!!!  How are you????  Where are you?????

  • Krasno1

@Neeka1 - Same place - Rotherham.  Just started itinerating round churches to raise funds for moving to South Africa (ASM) on mission.  Went to Swindon this week, in Doncaster at the weekend.  Doing well, but faced with a bit of a daunting proposition in trying to get more appointments and organise it around another child birth.  May have to delay departure until the end of the year, something that has been agreed between leaderships etc so is okay.  How are you doing?

  • FREAK_MA

I'm glad to hear from you.  How is everything going for you?  I know you must be busy and the SA must be getting closer.  I remember you being very excited about that.  I wish you well and thank you for thinking I'm worth keeping. LOL

    Blessings

    Marty

  • Neeka1

@Krasno1 - I'm okay thanks.  Another child birth????  Already happened, or not yet.

  • Krasno1

@Neeka1 - 1 month to go.  Been baby shopping this afternoon for changing mat, little vests etc.  How small are these 0-3 month things?

  • Neeka1

@Krasno1 - Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww ~ do you know if it's a boy or girl?

  • Krasno1

@Neeka1 - Yes!  Well, we know what the doctors told us - but we also know they are not always right.  The theory is girl, but we will wait and see.  Still buying neutral stuff at the moment, so you can see how high my trust levels are!

  • Neeka1

    @Krasno1 - LOL ~ you are wise.....neutral.
